Teresa Butta
Teresa
Butta is a Maryland-based trainer who offers
a top-quality dressage program at New
Blessing Farm. She is an FEI rider who has
represented the United States at the Young
Horse World Championships in Germany. Along
with specializing in starting young horses,
Teresa has numerous wins at both the
National and FEI Levels - from CBLM
Championships to USDF Horse of the Year
awards. Teresa is committed to bringing out
the best in every horse and rider through a program of consistent work, sympathetic
training and excellent care.
While
growing up in Glen Burnie as a horse crazy
kid, Teresa had the good fortune to be able
to keep her ponies in her backyard and was
taught the basics of horse care through the
local 4-H and Pony club. Her initial
experiences in all the riding disciplines
provided her with a well-rounded education,
but she was eventually drawn into the world
of dressage. Teresa knew at an early age
that horses would be her life, but the road
to that life has not always been an easy
one. Working different jobs (sometimes two
at a time) to support her dream has made her
appreciate the choice she made even more.
Teresa
has trained and continues to train under the
top dressage riders/trainers residing the
the United States. She is currently training
with Scott Hassler, with whom she has been
working since April 2005 when she was chosen
to attend the first Young Horse Trainers
Symposium. For many years, Teresa has been
training with Uwe Steiner and considers him
her first real mentor. She also trained and
worked for both Olympic dressage rider,
Cesar Parra, and Felicitas von Newumann-Cosel,
and was a rider for FEI "O" judge, Linda
Zang. Teresa has had the opportunity to ride
with a long list of other trainers
including: Klaus Balkenhol, Gerhard Politz,
Siegfried Peilicke, Michael Klimke, Wolfgang
Sherlow, Reinhart Nelson, Steffen Peters, and
Dr. Ulf Muller.

Teresa and
Unitas (Johnny) at the Nationals in 2006
Teresa
came onto the national and international
dressage scene in 2006 after winning the
USEF/Markel 5-year-old Young Horse Eastern
Selection Trails in Raleigh, North Carolina,
with her Dutch gelding, Unitas. She and
Unitas were one of two horse and rider
combinations selected to represent the
United States in the 2006 World Championships
for 5-year-old Young Horses in Verden,
Germany. At Dressage at Devon in the 2006,
Teresa found herself in the spotlight once
again aboard Dorie Forte's Oldenburg
gelding, Froelich, where she won the
4-year-old USEF Championships for
American-bred horses. In 2007 at the USEF/Markel
Young Horse Eastern Selection Trails in
Raleigh, North Carolina, Teresa and Unitas
placed third in the 6-year-old division and
third on Froelich in the 5-year-old
division. She was also one of the few riders
who showed and placed in more than one
division at the USEF/Markel Young Horse
Championships.

"I have had the pleasure of training Teresa Butta for the past two years. She is very
talented and able to develop young horses
through the FEI Levels. She is hard working
and cares deeply about her horses well being
and her relationship with clients. Over
these two years her recognition and
accomplishments have grown tremendously,
including representing the United States at
the Young Horse World Breeding
Championships." - Scott Hassler |
